The Sharper Your Knife, the Less You Cry: Love, Laughter, and Tears at the World's Most Famous Cooking School ReviewA great book! As a culinary grad myself, I'm impressed how well the author caught the feverish vibe of being a culinary student. The behind the scenes look at Le Cordon Bleu is fascinating. Her story is funny and touching, and the writing is great. As a book, it's a fast read. I got it yesterday from Amazon and finished it this afternoon. It's one of those books that I was sorry when it ended. It made me wish I could drop everything and run off to Paris, but I will have to settle for trying the French onion soup recipe in the book instead.
Her "who am I? How did I get here?" questioning of her life makes this book of interest even to those who aren't necessarily into cooking. As she notes at the end, the lessons she learns from her culinary training extend beyond the kitchen. If you liked "Eat, Pray, Love" by Liz Gilbert or "Heat" by Bill Buford, then you'll certainly like this book.
Update on March 31: I bought my mom the audio CD of this book for her birthday. I was surprised to find that it came with a separate non-audio CD that has all the recipes so you can print them out. It makes a nice little booklet.

The Do It Myself Kids' Cookbook: Nothing Hot, Nothing Sharp ReviewAs the main cook in our family, I am happy to find a cookbook that my daughter (age 5.5) can actually use without me standing over her, reading the cookbook the whole time! This one's light on words, heavy on pictures --- a welcome break from overly wordy kids' cookbooks we've tried before. The step-by-step drawings are clear and actually make enough sense that your kid doesn't HAVE to know how to read much at all. Just help them get all the ingredients out on the counter and then let 'em go to it. Then be prepared to taste their concoctions (pretty good and healthy too!).The Do It Myself Kids' Cookbook: Nothing Hot, Nothing Sharp OverviewThis unique cookbook features 50 fantastic recipes that kids as young as 4 years old can prepare entirely on their own. Tools, ingredients, and simple steps are all fully-illustrated and a beautiful finish photo accompanies each recipe. A parents' prep section outlines the basic things grownups can do (lay out ingredients; cover the work surface), and buy (pre-shredded cheese; supermarket roast chicken) so that they can truly hang out and relax while their kids create. The whole family will enjoy wonderful salads, sandwiches, breakfasts, beverages, and desserts.

The Migraine Cookbook ReviewWhen I discovered my two year old was having migraines and could no longer have cheese, ham or hot dogs, I began the search for more information and other fun things for her to eat now that her favorite foods are taboo. The Migraine Cookbook has some great information about children's migraines, but the recipes aren't quite what I need for a little girl. They are great for adults. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this book to anyone, but I'm still looking for a recipe book for my daughter. The Migraine Cookbook Overview
