How I Feel Angry: Book and Stickers (How I Feel Book Series) ReviewThis is a great little book for working with young children, who have a hard time talking about their feelings. The removeable stickers allow for the child to interact and express their own feelings over and over again. I also have enjoyed other books in this series that deal with other emotions. How I Feel Angry: Book and Stickers (How I Feel Book Series) Overview

The Art of Empowered Parenting: The Manual You Wish Your Kids Came With ReviewTHE ART OF EMPOWERED PARENTING BY ERIK FISHER, STEVEN WAYNE SHARP, AND DIANE FIVAZ WICHMAN is an excellent guide for new parents to start off in the right way helping their child to grown into the full development of his or her strengths and to steer away from personal weaknesses. The many styles of parenting are discussed with emphasis on equity parenting, in which the parents and children are considerate of each other's feelings and learn to listen and discuss clearly, as parents model the behavior they want their children to follow. There is an interesting discussion of control type situations in a family in which "It's my way or the highway is exhibited," and this can be done by the adults or by the children, each controlling the family in less than positive ways. With easy to recognize examples of family situations, the authors, who are well trained experts in the field as well as being parents themselves, give alternate ways of handling situations that promote respect, harmony, love and trust among family members and help the child develop healthy self-confidence. The book guides any parent, but especially new parents, into quality parenting amidst the dire pitfalls of our modern civilization. This book is a MUST and would be a perfect new baby gift. The Art of Empowered Parenting: The Manual You Wish Your Kids Came With Overview

An Unexpected Joy: The Gift of Parenting a Challenging Child ReviewA friend from church gave this book to my wife to read. Roughly two weeks before that, my son was diagnosed with a mild form of autism. This struck a big blow to me as a father. After reading the book, my wife told me I needed to read it. While I read it, I was transported into Mary Sharp's world as she raised her son. It dealt with many of the issues and questions we had about ourselves and our future. Though not a "text book" like some other books that deal with Autism, "An Unexpected Joy" deals with the emotional struggles that they faced. I could definitely relate as we have been facing the some of the same issues. I would recommend this to any parent, especially those with "normal" kids, because it helps you understand those special ones.An Unexpected Joy: The Gift of Parenting a Challenging Child OverviewDr. Mary Sharp shares her grief, anger, depression, and now acceptance of her son's autism. This memoir offers parents of autistic children:• A sense that someone else knows what you're going through• Help in dealing with the inevitable emotional and spiritual struggles• Insights into pitfalls to avoid and issues to address

The Gifted Teen Survival Guide: Smart, Sharp, and Ready for (Almost) Anything ReviewWhat was good about the previous edition of this book is even better in the new, fourth edition. The section on overexcitabilities and intensities is expanded, and an essay by Susan Daniels (who, with Michael Piechowski, co-edited Living with Intensity) titled "`Do You Have to Be So Intense? Are You Always So Sensitive? Can't You Just Settle Down?'" is an excellent explanation of both the challenges and the opportunities inherent in being an intense person.
Some new features include a section on homeschooling (with an essay by a homeschooled young woman who also has learning disabilities), an overview of current brain research, staying safe online, and even whether or not to blog. Through it all, examples from popular culture, such as the intellectual intensity of Dumbledore and Harry Potter and the portrayal of gifted people in The Big Bang Theory, help to bring the ideas into sharper focus.
Although the book is written for teens, I have a strong feeling that today's parents will find in this new Survival Guide valuable information and the chance to see the teenage years through the eyes of the teenagers themselves, which makes the parenting journey both easier and, in my experience, more rewarding. The Gifted Teen Survival Guide: Smart, Sharp, and Ready for (Almost) Anything Overview
