Sams Teach Yourself Visual C# 2008 in 24 Hours: Complete Starter Kit ReviewJames Foxall's guide for new C# programmers really hit the spot, at least for me. I have experience with many languages over the years, but had no call to look at C# until recently (my experience was mainly in midrange and mainframe systems, but did some Java many moons ago) and needed to get up to working pace FAST.
Foxall's book provided clarity of writing with useful code examples. I would recommend using this with other, more comprehensive texts, such as C# in a Nutshell or one of Jesse Liberty's C# guides, but Foxall's is the doco that got me up and running in a few days.
I am unsure how good it would be for someone without any programming experience at all, but that wasn't my concern when purchasing the book. It served my purpose well.Sams Teach Yourself Visual C# 2008 in 24 Hours: Complete Starter Kit Overview

No sales.Drew Sharp lowered the art of the literary stiff to yet another level with "Razor Sharp", determined to define his lack of achievement once more.His sustained failure in writing columns isn't an indictment of effort or desire. The crushed looks on his publishers' faces as "Razor Sharp" sat outside of the Amazon Top 1,000,000 told you how badly they want Drew to change this negative perception.But he is what he is.He's virulent. He's inept.Neither editing nor time can instill competence.Either it's inside the book or it isn't."I don't buy that," said fellow sportswriter Mitch Albom, defiantly standing by his colleague. "This book has been beaten on, run over, spit on, you name it. But I still can't destroy it. "The Drywall Finisher's Handbook" checks in at #464,899; "No More Bedwetting: How to Help your Child Stay Dry" is at #206,013; and "The War Against Toenail Fungus" resides at a comparatively lofty #74,497.This was a choke, plain and simple.
