Today Is Your Day to Win ReviewI first ran into this book about 8 or 9 months ago when i was going through a rough period in my life. Im not going to tell my sob story here, but suffice to say i was looking for some good books on motivation and thought patterns. I originally bought this book off of Mike Brescia's web site just for the hell of it. It looked real gimmicky and the title was real corny but i thought "what the hell , its only 20 bucks"
After i recieved the book i couldnt put it down. This wasnt your typical "think happy thoughts" book it was more down to earth with its advice and more inline with what you'll get with a book on religious mystics of all faiths, except no religious non sense att all.
Im a fan of Eknath easwaran whos work in thought and its uses in meditation and daily life were way ahead of what anyone was offering backin his day, and even today. One of Easwarans favorite quotes that he put in almost eveyone of his books was from the buddha " We are the some of what we think" and this is the overall theme of brescia's book, except he gives you a very basic way of achieving a more positive and productive way of reaching this state of mind.
The only draw backs to his book is the annoying sales pitch throughout his book for his other products. the book is a combonation of selfhelp for you and catalog for Brescia, so much so that i thought about giving it only 4 stars, but, like everyone else in america, the man is allowed to make a buck so the 5 stars stay. I also really could have done without the title of the book, it sounded more like it came from a barney library then an adult motivational book, but that is just a personal annoyance.
Overall i really believe this book, its advice and stories, will really help alot of people. The proof in the millions of studies done on thought and its consequences to humans is overwhelming, and this book will help you get a healthier thought pattern working for you.Today Is Your Day to Win Overview

Getting It Done: How to Lead When You're Not in Charge ReviewWhenever I meet with bright, motivated business people who want to improve the world, they always complain about others in their organizations who will not cooperate in a change process. Get those reluctant people on board the progress train, and the more positive future will soon arrive. Almost never do these complainers realize that their own habits, perspective, and behavior are contributing to delaying the progress by making others oppose the initiative.
Getting It Done is a wonderful book for helping each of us see ourselves as part of the problem and part of the solution in situations when many people must cooperate. That's a first in my experience.
The book builds on that valuable perspective by suggesting what skills we each need to improve, and how we can implement a process that will lead to genuine, effective progress. That is very critical, because most improvements occur because someone has designed an effective process to ease their implementation. In new areas, by definition, there is seldom such a process. My suggestion is that you try this one if you have no other.
I also liked the way the authors went on to generalize about how lateral leadership (influencing peers) provides lessons for when you are the boss. The same lessons apply here as well. Influencing people through genuine involvement leads to both better solutions and to better implementation.
If you only read and learn to apply one book this year, Getting It Done should be that book. My reasoning is simple. If you cannot help those you work with to make successful collaborations, you and everyone around you will always operate at a low level of effectiveness. Also, your work day will be filled with stress, conflict, pressure, too much to do, and worry. That's not the way you want to live. Getting It Done can help you develop the skills to get the benefits of how all of us know and can do more than any one of us. When you are able to get that benefit from being in an enterprise, life becomes very interesting, rewarding, and meaningful. You will also feel good about living closer to your potential as a person.Getting It Done: How to Lead When You're Not in Charge Overview
