A Course In Miracles Urtext Manuscripts Complete Seven Volume Combined Edition ReviewHaving read the Foundation of Inner Peace's edition of ACIM a while ago, I was surprised to learn that it might not be an accurate reproduction of the original text. In all other cases, I would appreciate the value of multiple editing attempts (the quality of which has been questioned by some), but, in this case, the result often distorts the original message.
Nowadays, you can find free versions of Urtext on the net, but if you are looking for a well-published scrupulously analyzed and annotated alternative, this is the only book that will satisfy your requirements today.A Course In Miracles Urtext Manuscripts Complete Seven Volume Combined Edition Overview

Communion with God: The Divine and the Human in the Theology of John Owen ReviewDuring the last century with the rise of Pentecostalism some had said the 20th century was the century of the Holy Spirit. With the influx of reprinting of Puritan works and works on the theology of Puritans, it could easily be said that perhaps the 21st century is the century of the Puritans. In this new release, Communion with God, by Kelly Kapic (Associate Professor of Theological Studies at Covenant College, Lookout Mountain, GA), this most wonderful trend continues.
Kapic is no stranger to the Puritans or to Owen. He has preciously edited with Randall Gleason, The Devoted Life: An Invitation to the Puritan Classics (IVP) and has recently updated a number of John Owen's works with the help of Justin Taylor (Overcoming Sin and Temptation and Communion with the Triune God both from Crossway). This volume is the edited substance of his PhD dissertation from King's College, University of London).
Owen serves as crucial figure for study in the life of the Puritans. The "Calvin of England," the chaplain to Oliver Cromwell, the Presbyterian turned Congregationalist, the writer of numerous books, the preacher of many sermons, the scholarly academic, the admirer of the country preacher (Bunyan to be precise), Owen is a necessary figure to study. Many find him daunting as his writing has been referred to as "dense." Therefore, a study like Kapic's on the relationship of the divine and human in Owen's thought, is most needed in our day of both historical and theological imprecision.
The primary thrust then of the thought of the book revolves around the relationship between God and man. Kapic writes near the end of his introductory chapter on the life of Owen, "Since humanity was created to commune with God, the theological enterprise must be primarily concerned with understanding humanity in its relation with God. As we see at the very end of our study, being made in God's image is primarily about loving Jesus Christ, who is the mediator between God and humanity. This unique relationship is ultimately what defines being in communion with God" (pp. 33-34). Kapic then proceeds to flesh out this thinking in the following chapters. Chapter 2 deals with exploring humanity as made in the image of God and works through Owen's use of faculty psychology, and a brief survey of humanity through history, providing a framework for fitting creation, fall, and redemption into Owen's thinking on the relationship between God and man. In chapter 3 Kapic turns to the ultimate expression of relationship between God and man, the God-man, Jesus Christ and answers questions like, why the incarnation? Chapter 4 deals with the issue of justification and works through Owen's understanding of faith and his disagreement with Roman Catholic opponents and how he understands negative and positive imputation. Chapter 5 moves to the main core of the book which is human communion with God. Specifically Kapic looks at Owens's creative attempt to view the Trinity within the context of worship. Finally, in chapter 6, he turns to the Lord's day and the Lord's supper which are two examples that Owen uses to foster the relationship between God and man.
The book is a great success in working through the massive writing of Owen on these issues and develops for readers today, a helpful theological construct in understanding the theology behind the relationship between God and man. In a day when there is an incredible lack of focus on precision in theology, especially in the life of the church, a study of a great theologian and church man like Owen on these issues is incredibly important. In a brief review like this, one cannot work through all the work that Kapic has done here but suffice to say, this is a rich work that deserves wide readership and hopefully, a desire to go back to the sources and read Owen himself. Owen has much to say to readers today if they are willing to pursue the hard work of mining the riches of this great man. The importance of this book is summed up from part of the forward by the great student of the Puritan's himself, J.I. Packer:
For understanding, enjoying, and communicating communion with God was what Owen understood his life and ministry to be all about. His writings reveal him as not only an evangelical confessor and controversialist in the Reformed mainstream, but also as a Calvinist catechist, weaving in applicatory pastoral rhetoric at every point. Dr. Kapic coins the word anthroposensitive to characterize this aspect of his expository method. It fits. This is a landmark book in modern Puritan study, and it is a joy to commend it.
This reviewer completely agrees. This book is recommended for seminary students and professors, pastors, and believers who have a serious desire to study in depth theology and church history. Tolle lege!

An Unexpected Joy: The Gift of Parenting a Challenging Child ReviewA friend from church gave this book to my wife to read. Roughly two weeks before that, my son was diagnosed with a mild form of autism. This struck a big blow to me as a father. After reading the book, my wife told me I needed to read it. While I read it, I was transported into Mary Sharp's world as she raised her son. It dealt with many of the issues and questions we had about ourselves and our future. Though not a "text book" like some other books that deal with Autism, "An Unexpected Joy" deals with the emotional struggles that they faced. I could definitely relate as we have been facing the some of the same issues. I would recommend this to any parent, especially those with "normal" kids, because it helps you understand those special ones.An Unexpected Joy: The Gift of Parenting a Challenging Child OverviewDr. Mary Sharp shares her grief, anger, depression, and now acceptance of her son's autism. This memoir offers parents of autistic children:• A sense that someone else knows what you're going through• Help in dealing with the inevitable emotional and spiritual struggles• Insights into pitfalls to avoid and issues to address

The Book of Light: The Nature of God, the Structure of Consciousness, and the Universe Within You ReviewBe warned, the cover illustration and title are very seductive.. Don't waste your money. This is vanity press at its worst. I was excited to read the reviews here on Amazon and bought this on the strength of them. I have been exploring the A Course in Miracles/Story Waters path for several years and was eager to find the next step. Unfortunately this is mammoth leap in reverse.
Contrary to what you will read here Dr Sharp is an embarrassingly bad author, actually, he is merely a man with a PC. The Book of Light reads like a verbose and self satisfied e-mail from someone who delludedly believes they're funny - complete with smiley faces and annecdotal 'amusing' and totally irrelevant asides "You may, if you wish, scrunch up your eyebrows..."
His writing is not literate or informative and his message is absurd. Rather than it pursuing the essential purity of the unity it builds a ridiculous mythology filled with irrelevant equasions and sequences to give it a history and fill space. He even answers his own questions inadequately, let alone mine. When talking us through one of his pointless numerical processes that supposedly took place at 'the creation' he asks: "why 12 and not another number? Well, for no other reason than twelve seemed a good idea at the time." Surely a statement like this renders further pursuit of any particular equasion meaningless, but Sharp continues for a chapter or two regardless.
This book includes a lot of white paper with clip art, first person quips and convoluted formulae replacing paragraphs of text. The prose is amateur, unedited and therefore infuriatingly rambling. The Book of Light - if edited by a professional could be reduced to a 10 page pamphlet that would take up less space in the landfill. Most revealing of Sharp's motivation is his choice to omit information essential to his theory. (despite the white space available on the page, and though editing) Instead Sharp tells us which of his other books to run and buy if we want to know.
If you have ever sensed the unity for yourself, if you know it's real and that this reality is anything but real this book is an insult to your intelligence. It creates formulae and ritual where there is nothing but 'God' as a pure and simple force, it fabricates plodding numeric sequences where there is nothing but one ariel love. On the other hand, if you enjoy unicorn T-shirts, crystals, incense and telling people at parties that you're a witch this may be what you're looking for... however, I make no promises
When it comes to Dr Sharp I have learned my lesson well. The exploitative, unprofessional drivel I found between these covers broke through any serenity I had managed to achieve and managed to piss me off! No small feat these days... I'm still trying to work out why my higher self put this nonsense into my reality - perhaps so that I will look inward rather than outward for the answers, no one is better qualified than me/you to see the light, definitely not Dr Sharp. The Book of Light: The Nature of God, the Structure of Consciousness, and the Universe Within You OverviewWhen you are ready to remove your chains... The Book of Light is a spiritual tour-de-force that will take you on a journey of enlightenment and empowerment like no other. Expressing only the highest spiritual truths, yet written in the same down-to-earth manner as all Michael Sharp's books, The Book of Light will leave you breathless and at the edge of your seat wanting more from this remarkable spiritual teacher. The Book of Light is a gift of total freedom from the bondage of the veil. The Book of Light will help you place yourself in proper perspective not as a descended ape or fallen angel but as the glorious, light filled spark of divine creator conscious that you are. It will remove the final vestiges of sleep and give you back your full and limitless potential. Haven't you put up with all the nonsense long enough? It is time to return. Welcome Home!

Dossier of the Ascension: A Practical Guide to Chakra and Kundalini Activation ReviewI first heard about the author by going on a well-known on-line encyclopedia and looking up the subject of "Kundalini". Mr Sharp is listed as an expert on Kundalini, so I was intrigued, and ordered the book. I had already had experience with Kundalini, and had read just about eveything on the subject that I could get my hands on. Well, there is next to nothing on Kundalini nor on Kundalini experiences here, so don't be fooled by the publicity like I was. There is the same old superficial repetition of other bad books on the subject of the chakras. Even after this disappointment however, I was willing to give the author the benefit of the doubt and read what he has to say on the metaphysical and spiritual side. Well I almost got sick when I did. Believe me, I'm not a skeptic when it comes to spiritual work - I've been on an intense eclectic spiritual path for over 35 years now. Here's just a typical quote, from p 27:

" What is this deeper process, this deeper meaning of The Path of Awakening? Really, this path is all about how you self-interface with your physical body and mind. It is about how much of your spiritual consciousness you can get into your body at any one time. It is about bringing your "self" more fully into your body."
As is clear from the above quote, the hidden premiss is that the Spiritual consciousness is none other than your "self", and the "self" that the author describes in this book is in no way different from the ordinary ego. There is no discussion of the difference between the 3self" as ego, and the "Higher self", or even what lies beyond the Higher Self as is brilliantly discussed in Buddhism.
Well that's about as deep as the book ever gets; not even ankle deep.
Mr Sharp is clearly not even faintly aware of the fact that to ascend the mountain to the true summit of spiritual light, we first have to descend into the dark valley that seperates "our" mountain from the spiritual one. To go straight up into the light, is to climb our own mountain towards the false but dazzling light of the little self who is always dreaming of overcoming its inherent inferiority complex. This is the fundamental spiritual trap exposed by every great spiritual and shamanic tradition without exception. In Taoism for example, it is taught that in order to find light, you need to look into the darkness, and to go "up", you need to go "down". In the New Testament we read: "The last shall be first, and the first shall be last" etc. In The Divine Comedy, Dante first decsends into hell before ascending through the various heavens. The ancient Greeks were also very familiar with the danger of being deluded by the temptation of "direct ascension", poetically warning us through the myth of Icarus, and the myth of Promethius. We all fear going down into our own sacred darkness more than anything else because the true spiritual light that will expose our nakedness is always encountered in the sacred dark meditation space within the heart. It takes great honesty and courage to willingly and lovingly open up to the pain of having all of our illusions sacrificially shattered. And yet, that's the only place where true death and rebirth (transformation) can really happen. It doesn't happen "up there" at all, but deep within us. Direct Ascension is a false path that only leads to hubris and the search for compensatory personal power.
The author offers his own bit on pop psychology by saying that we all need to face the "truth" about ourselves such as our weak points and fears, etc. But what self-help books haven't already said so thousands of times without ever explaining how to do that without the help of a psychotherapist or analyst? For those of us who are a bit naive, it is easy to be impressed by the feeling that "Ascension" includes the practice of psychological self-awareness. But the link between psychological work on oneself and spiritual unfolding has already been discussed countless times in countless books. This is nothing new, and yet it is presented as a unique and original idea in this book. The author himself has no university background in psychology, there is no sign of any knowledge on this subject deeper than skin-deep.
For readers who are hoping to get some ego-strength support, the book does indeed provide a "feel good" trip. However I'm afraid that true spiritual transformation has nothing to do with stengthening our "self" by surrounding it with light.Dossier of the Ascension: A Practical Guide to Chakra and Kundalini Activation Overview

Book of Life: Ascension and the Divine World Order ReviewIf you want a book that requires nothing of you, but to recognize and accept the Truth within yourself then this is the book for you! It is simple, easy to read, and life changing!
It cut away the fears that had been troubling me for ages like a surgical knife and caused me to see the Truth without hinderance. There is nothing complicated. Nothing hidden. Dr. Michael Sharp clears the path for our ascension clearing the fears and dualities like a spiritual surgeon.
You do not need a teacher, an organization...just YOU!! The veil is lifting...you will not regret making this one a part of your path. In fact, you will be hard pressed to put it down and will immediately want to share it with everyone!
All I can say is that I was swept away by his book and I await the release of The Book of Triump of Spirit along with the 'special' Tarot deck which accompanies it!
