Theory of Games and Economic Behavior (Commemorative Edition) (Princeton Classic Editions) Review
I'm not even sure I'm qualified to pass judgement on this book, but what I understand, I give 5 stars without hesitation. The authors discuss almost every class of game (2-person, 3-person, zero-sum, non-zero-sum, etc.) and even a very simplified version of poker.

You basically have to be a mathematician to get full value from this book. This book is absolutely full of equations and complex proofs. For a beginner with little math, I'd recommend Game Theory by Morton Davis, or for someone with some university math I'd recommend Games and Decisions by Luce and Raiffa. However, if your math is good, you might as well go straight to this book, which started the whole field of game theory.Theory of Games and Economic Behavior (Commemorative Edition) (Princeton Classic Editions) Overview

Spectra and Pseudospectra: The Behavior of Nonnormal Matrices and Operators ReviewIf you as a mathematician or physicist use linear algebra/approximations/algorithms at all, you should at least leaf through the opening chapters and digest the moral: pseudospectra are a tool that tells you important things about the character of a matrix, in particular when the eigenvalue spectrum is likely to be unreliable. Given the modular organization of the book, it is likely that anyone who appreciates this point will then find chapters they want to read.

Differentiable Manifolds (Modern Birkhäuser Classics) ReviewIt is SO HARD to create a precise yet not too-many-pages book on a lot of these higher math subjects. This guy really knows how to pick his topics from within the field which he is surveying. The font is beautiful as well. I wish that I had had him as a teacher when I learned this material -- I would have learned it SO much better the first time. As it was, it took about 3 times for it all to sink in. Schaum's A-Z Mathematics ReviewI bought this as a reference for a college programming competition since we were allowed printed material but not Internet access. I have a degree in Mathematics, but even I forget some basic formulae on occasions (again, what was the formula for the area of a cone?). It's an alphabetized reference of basic high school mathematics theorems and formulae. The areas include (non-abstract, real) algebra, Euclidean geometry, plane trigonometry, and just a little bit of calculus. It also includes some elementary formulae from physics (mechanics specifically) and statistics. It doesn't bother thoroughly explaining the concepts, so I wouldn't use it as a piece of learning material. Instead, it is designed to be a quick reference. Definitions are presented, formulae are included where they are needed, and there are occasionally examples with solutions. If you're studying pre-calculus mathematics, this would be a handy reference and would save you from having to dig through your textbooks. It might also help when studying for the ACT or SAT, but there are better resources. If you're in calculus, you won't get much from it, however. Only the very, very basic integration formulae are included. Also, it's not quite enough to make it through an introductory statistics or physics class since some important items are omitted. For certain people, specifically someone needing a quick reference for pre-calculus mathematics and only need formulae instead of explanations, it works.Schaum's A-Z Mathematics Overview

However, on a bored Saturday night in October, I constructed my first Sliceform. The "slices" are extremely detailed templates, and cutting has to be exact, but when I completed the 'Form by sliding the cuts onto one another, I was amazed and perplexed. This three-dimensional shape can be folded onto itself in a synesthetically pleasing way. I carry my Sliceform with me whenever I sense I might get bored -- or need a handy conversation-starter! _Sliceforms_ is pretty easy to understand and a great joy to experience, especially if one is as detail-oriented as I.
